Brad Rader
Brad Rader is a third-generation farmer and president of Whatcom Family Farmers, representing a legacy of agricultural innovation that began when his family established Rader Farms in 1941. As Vice President and General Manager of one of Whatcom County's premier raspberry and blueberry operations, Brad manages 550 acres of raspberry production and 175 acres of blueberries, contributing to the region's status as producer of 85% of America's red raspberries.
Learning the farming business directly from his parents, Brad embodies the generational knowledge and deep connection to the land that defines Northwest Washington agriculture. His leadership extends beyond farm management to environmental stewardship and community collaboration, particularly in addressing the complex water rights challenges facing the Nooksack River watershed.
Through his role with Whatcom Family Farmers and participation in community dialogue initiatives, Brad advocates for sustainable farming practices that balance agricultural productivity with environmental responsibility. His collaborative approach, including partnerships with tribal leaders and environmental organizations, reflects his belief that the future of farming depends on open minds, adaptability, and community cooperation. Brad's vision for agriculture emphasizes the importance of working together to ensure a vital industry for the next generation while fostering stronger community bonds along the Nooksack River.
